The ‘In- Thing’ for hair right now is hair straightening. But sometimes we all need a change from the usual, especially if your hair is the kind that does not sport the straight look very well. If you hair is thin and limp then hair perm is the perfect idea. It adds body to scanty and limp hair. And now a days you can get exactly the kind wave you want – you can get the lose waves or the corkscrew curls.
It is advisable to do a little preparation before the perm. Do wash and condition your hair before you visit the salon for the perm. The perming process usually takes a few hours depending on the length and quality of your hair, and it usually settles in 24 to 48 hours. In this duration it is not advisable to wet your hair. In the perming process, a chemical is used that breaks the structural bond of your hair that will make it easier to restructure it into the kind of waves you desire. Then your hair is wound around rollers, the size of which determines the size for the curls. Bigger rollers give you loser curls and vice versa.

The hair is soaked in a perming solution which takes time to work. The hair is then washed. Then, the neutralizer is applied that gives the hair the new pattern. After a while the neutralizer is washed off, and the hair is rinsed off again after removing the rollers. A perm usually lasts 2 months to six months.
Permed hair requires greater care than usual. Conditioning being a very significant part of the hair care. And it is advisable to use specially formulated products for permed hair. To dry your hair you just need to gently squeeze out the water with a towel. You can use your fingers to comb through your hair. Even a comb with wide teeth can be used. Anti fizz serum (which is easily available in the market these days) will do permed hair some good.
If you hair is coloured or highlighted, it’s generally not advisable to go for a perm. The chemicals used in the permng process are rather harsh to be used on hair that has already been chemically treated.
